Atomic Mass Games recently released a whole bunch of Mandalorian goodness, with the Special Edition Army box being the best value. It comes with the Armorer and Din Djarin (with Grogu), but the meat and potatoes of the box consists of 3x of the Mandalorian Warrior product (which is supposed to get its own individual release in July).
As folks get their hands on these boxes, crack them open, and start to clip out parts, there have been a plethora of questions about the specifics of building the different options that can be made from the box. I was among them, but spent the better part of a day absorbing as much information as possible. Here are the basics you need to know.
DISCLAIMER: When I had last played Legion, the Clone Wars era factions had not even been released. I don’t know which unit options, heavy weapons options, or upgrade options are the optimal choices. I just want to throw out some basic information about how to identify units and weapon options.
DISCLAIMER #2: A lot of folks have mentioned that the WYSIWYG-ness of building these units is pretty relaxed. You don’t need to necessarily be super strict about these guidelines (but I want to be strict for my own building purposes).
Mandalorian Initiates

The Initiates are basically the interns of the Mandalorian forces. As such, they don’t get to use jetpacks yet. They also began as a base unit of 5 figures. Here are a few shot of the ones I built for me.

The Initiates also don’t get to take the GALAAR-15 carbines, so I’ve made sure to only use the ones that are meant to be regular blaster rifles. Most of the ones on the sprue sort of look like Boba Fett’s gun, but the kneeling figure has one that looks different. Apparently, these are all mechanically the same. For the most part, the regular blaster rifles also add capes to the Mandos. The Leader (pointing finger) can either be modeled with the hip cape or with just a plain belt.

It’s worth noting that you can also take a “super squad” of Mandalorian Initiates, which would add 4 figures to the base unit.

I’ve chosen not to specifically model any heavy weapon options for the Initiates, but your options would be the Mini-Grenade Launcher (left) or the SHAKUR (right). Also, unless you’re running Children of the Watch, you cannot take more than 2 units of Initiates.
Initiates Quick Guidelines
- No jetpacks.
- Regular Blaster Rifles only.
- Squad of 5 (can add 4 figures as an upgrade)
- SHAKUR or Micro Grenade Launcher as heavy weapon upgrades.
- Can only take 2 units unless you’re running Children of the Watch.
Mandalorian Warriors

The Mandalorian Warriors are your garden variety Mandalorians. The only real difference between them and the Initiates is that they get jetpacks now. Here’s a picture of the ones I built for myself. A base unit has 5 figures.

You have two jetpack options. I’ve chosen to use the “Boba Fett” looking jetpack with the longer missile, but either one is fine. It’s also worth noting that the Warriors have the ability for the whole unit to take the GALAR-15 as a weapon if you pay for it as an upgrade. I’ve chosen to just model mine with the regular blaster rifles, but you shouldn’t have an issue if you decide to use the GALAARs or even mix up a squad with both.

I also made the heavy weapons options for the Warriors with the SHAKUR on the left and the mini grenade launcher on the right.
Warriors Quick Guidelines
- Jetpacks.
- Regular Blaster Rifles (can take GALAAR-15 as a whole-squad upgrade)
- Squad of 5
- SHAKUR or Micro Grenade Launcher as heavy weapon upgrades.
Mandalorian Warriors (Fire Support)

Adding a unit of Mandalorian Warriors to your list also allows you to add their Fire Support unit as a support option. If so, they basically look like the Warriors, but they have the GALAAR-15 as a standard option, thus I’ve modeled my figures with them. Also, you MUST take a heavy weapon option, which replaces the “pointing finger” figure as its leader. Here are my figures:

The kneeling figure does have the jetpack, it’s just blocked by his helmet.
It’s also worth noting that the Fire Support Warriors can take the sniper rifle as their heavy weapon.
Warriors Fire Support Quick Guidelines
- Jetpacks.
- GALAAR-15 as standard weapons
- Must take a heavy weapon (replaces the “pointing figure” model as the leader)
- Can take SHAKUR, mini grenade launcher, or sniper rifle.
- You must have a regular unit of Warriors to be able to take a Fire Support unit.
Clan Kryze Veterans

The Mandalorian Warriors box also allows you to create a Clan Kryze Veterans unit (although the card for this unit does not come in the Special Edition box). It’s supposed to be available for print and play, or it’ll also come with the regular retail release of the Mandalorian Warriors box.

They have the GALAAR-15 by default. Each sprue also has Kryze specific hemlets with the little owl/bird thing carved into it. I’ve chosen to give them the jetpack with the smaller missile, since all the media appearances of Clan Kryze that I’ve seen shows them with it by default. It’s also worth noting that Kryze Mandos seem to not have the capes. Kryze Veterans can take any of the heavy weapons options (sniper rifle, SHAKUR, micro grenade launcher).
Caln Kryze Quick Guidelines
- Jetpacks.
- GALAAR-15 as standard weapons
- Special Kryze helmets on the sprues.
- Can take SHAKUR, mini grenade launcher, or sniper rifle.
- In media, Kryze Mandos tend to use shorter missile jetpacks and tend to not use capes.
Hope this helps!
